The International African American Museum (IAAM) celebrates and honors African American history and identity. Located in Charleston’s Historic District at Gadsden’s Wharf, the museum tell’ the story of arrival, adaptation, perseverance, and triumph of the African American population who entered here, and who built a new culture that profoundly impacts the nation. SW+ worked with renowned landscape architect Walter Hood through the development and construction of the landscape and hardscape elements of the museum.
The International African American Museum was honored by TIME Magazine, listed as one of the World’s Greatest Places of 2024.
