SW+ worked with the creators of Firefly Vodka to design a unique entertainment spot and distillery in the Park Circle area of North Charleston. The business had outgrown its original site
on Wadmalaw Island, and Firefly’s owner wanted to combine the production side of the distillery with a music and outdoor events venue for the community. This new location fulfills the project goals
and supports revitalization in the surrounding neighborhoods. The new facility, located on 15 acres bordered by Rome Lane and Spruill Avenue, had previously been used as a landfill. Along with master planning, concept plan refinement, due diligence, and BZA tree variance processes, SW+ completed extensive site civil engineering services including grading plans, water, and sewer design, stormwater
management, and design and engineering of a new access road from Spruill Avenue. The variance was necessary due to the site’s Brownfieldstatus, which required the site to be capped before development.
SW+ Landscape Architects developed and refined the landscape and hardscape elements for the Firefly campus. Civil site development construction drawings, hardscape/landscape construction drawings,
agency permit coordination, bidding assistance, and construction phase services were also completed.
