Working with Parsons Brinckerhoff/PB Placemaking, SW+ developed conceptual plans for the revitalization of Coleman Boulevard. The project goal is to restore and redefine a true downtown for the Town of Mount Pleasant. Coleman Boulevard, long a major throughway, was selected as a prime area for revitalization due to its location, its connectivity, and its eclecticism. A week-long design charrette that included a series of public meetings for citizens’ review and comment was held. The result was a series of drawings and ideas that became the basis for the proposed Coleman Boulevard district development guidelines. The anticipated changes to roadways and other design standards are intended to allow more pedestrian activity along the throughway. Bike lanes on both sides of the road, wider sidewalks, better crosswalks, on-street parking, and several small parks are examples of the proposed changes.
