In a previous incarnation, our Director of Strategic Land Development, Kurt Sandness, ran his own successful, internationally-recognized golf course architecture firm, Sandness Design Group.
In fact, it was during the design of a couple of golf course residential developments—Regent Park in York County, SC and at StillWaters Golf Club in Dadeville, Alabama—that SW+ and Kurt became acquainted and founded the relationship that 20+ years later has Kurt at the helm of our Construction Administration/Land Development department. It is in his role as golf course architect that Kurt has gained his most recent recognition.
The January 2015 issue of Golf Digest magazine contains a list of the Top 75 golf courses open to the public in Florida. Two of the courses designed by the Sandness Design Group, the Lake Jovita South Course (#41) and the Lake Jovita North Course (#55) in Dade City, Florida, have made the list. Working with pro-golfer Tom Lehman, Kurt completed the multiple-award winning South Course in 1999 and then followed up that success with the North Course in 2005. One of the more interesting and challenging aspects of the South Course is the 94-ft drop at the Par 5, 11th hole. It is the largest natural elevation change for a golf hole in Florida.
Many thanks to Golf Digest magazine for some well-deserved recognition for our friend and colleague and for a fantastic start to 2015!
